Chaplain Candidate series to be expanded

Probably the most popular articles on my website are those about the Army Chaplain Candidate program. I began writing the articles to help others learn more about the chaplain candidate process, something I didn’t know much about when I first became a candidate.

The series has been on hold for a while because of my lack of time to expand it at the present. However, be assured that I will resume the series and complete it. My current deployment to Iraq doesn’t allow me to do so, but when I am home again, I will first revise the existing articles and expand the series.

After the chaplain candidate series is complete, I will begin working to expand the What Chaplains Do series.

Fr. Daniel Sparks,

I know you hear this often but I also want to take the time to thank you for putting this information together.  I am finishing up my degree in religious studies and have found a new interest in ministry.  I originally went to school at Cedarville University for their pastoral studies program but I soon questioned if that was my calling (fear?), so I transferred to University of Wisconsin Stevens Point to get a bachelors degree in Philosophy with an emphasis in religious studies.  Through my time at UWSP I have been searching for my purpose, but nothing had seemed to fit.  I have added and dropped majors so many times that I have lengthened my time to get a bachelors degree to five and a half years  I then started thinking that maybe my calling was to go into the ministry which I have ran away from since my freshman year of college.  My new roommate, a Staff Sergeant in the Army Reserves had has somehow directed me to the Army chaplaincy without even talking to me.  God does work in mysterious ways. Since then I have been doing a lot of research and have been praying for guidance.  I also have members of my family, church and friends praying for me.  Although I am still not sure if becoming a chaplain is what God wants of me, I felt that I just needed to thank you for the support you have provided to me and others.  God has blessed you and God has used this website to help direct many of His children onto this journey.  Thanks again and God bless.  You will always be in my prayers.
