“Leslie Parvin sits before you today as a man who led a double life,” Nicole Simpson, a prosecutor in the 5th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, said during her opening statement.

Luke Shealey, part of Parvin’s defense team from the 5th Circuit Public Defender’s Office, said those accusations were insulting to a decorated war veteran who has a wife and three sons.

Soldiers have many personal reasons for choosing to serve. Some say a strong inner urge or calling prompted them to select their current vocation.
Following a path of conviction may not always offer tangible rewards, but offers a great sense of self-fulfillment for Spc. Faith Bedwell, a chaplain assistant assigned to 101st Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Advise and Assist Task Force, 1st Infantry Division.
Bedwell, a native of Chatom, Ala., said she enjoys helping out and providing Soldiers with resources necessary to help themselves.
“I receive my reward after a Soldier gets help and comes back with a smile and says ‘thank you,’” she said.
Serving in U.S. Division-North in support of Operation New Dawn, Bedwell said many people do not realize what her job entails as a chaplain assistant.

C-J graduate has a passion for marriagehttp://www.tcnewsnet.com/main.asp?SectionID=6&SubSectionID=6&ArticleID=156188Vandalia resident Tony Miltenberger is following what he refers to as a ‘divine nudge’ – a career opportunity with Ginghamsburg United Methodist Church that allows him to pursue his passion.

“My passion is marriage ministry – working with singles and relationships,” said Miltenberger, the new Adult Education Coordinator at Ginghamsburg.

Miltenberger developed this dedication as an army chaplain’s assistant, seeing the problems improper communication caused in both his and other marriages.

He first saw his wife, Karen, when they attended the same elementary school, Our Lady of Mercy. They finally started talking in eighth grade, when they were both part of a group of students that started “YM” (youth ministry). The two didn’t start dating, though, until Tony was a junior and Karen was a senior in high school.

“I love her passion for life,” said Tony, “She makes me the best version of myself.”

“It was a good experience, but I wouldn’t want to do it again,” chuckled Dinsmore.

Raised in rural Coin, Disnmore graduated from Coin High School in 1951 – with 17 students in his class.

After high school, he had the opportunity to go to California and while there, work on a 12,000 acre grape ranch as a plummer. He had decided early in high school to go to college, so in the fall of 1951, he came back to enter Northwest Missouri State University.
